There are tons of cat videos on the internet — but I’ve never seen a pair quite as funny and unique as these two (Here’s a link to their site). So, to satisfy my guilty obsession with this pair, I decided to partake in a little fan art — resulting in a digitized embroidery project. Veronica and the Baby Boo are sisters who turned two years old today. And this is the finally-finished result of digitizing them. I started early this year and used the picture shown above as the basis for this project.
The digitizing itself took several months – because of some of the trickier elements that can make or break any drawing — in particular, the eyes. Veronica’s eyes – the grey tabby – were not difficult to capture – they’re big and full of wonder. But the eyes on Baby Boo, the calico, in the background, were very difficult to get right.
Embroidery can be a piece of cake when you’re doing logos or still objects. But capturing someone’s face or personal characteristics like the eyes can be daunting. Digitizing their fur was probably the easiest – and funnest part. And, I wasn’t too concerned about the coloring – this kept changing clear to the last draft.
But the eyes on Baby Boo changed every time I finished a draft. So, in the end I decided to increase her pupil size, and added more definition to keep her representation in the original image true.
I finished it last night and uploaded a post to my TikTok. Links are below 🙂
